(J.R.H. 105)

Offered by: Representative Hube of Londonderry.

Whereas, the Fourth of July is the day on which we joyfully commemorate our nation's independence, and

Whereas, the many celebrations around the state of Vermont reflect a variety of local traditions that represent each community's unique contribution to the holiday's festivities, and

Whereas, the Wardsboro Fourth of July Street Fair is undoubtedly one of the favorite holiday events of visitors from near and far, and

Whereas, this spectacular salute to our nation's glory commences early in the morning with a colorful parade filled with magnificent bands, gorgeous floats, spiffy antique cars, hilarious clowns and shiny red fire trucks that slowly but steadily travels along historic South Hill Road to the resounding cheers of wildly enthusiastic spectators, and

Whereas, the magnificent parade is only the beginning of Wardsboro's holiday festivities as visitors can play the games, purchase the beautiful items at the arts and crafts exhibit and sale, view the lovely quilts at the antique quilt show to be held in the Yoke Church, and sample the local gourmets' delicacies, especially Wardsboro's famously scrumptious strawberry shortcake, at the many booths and concessions that align the parade's route, and

Whereas, the culinary highlight of the day is the annual barbecue dinner which always features a delicious chicken barbecue with all the essential fixin's, and

Whereas, the day's fun and frivolity has a serious purpose as the proceeds from all sales benefit the Wardsboro Yoked Parish and the Wardsboro Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, and

Whereas, 1999 marks the 50th anniversary of the Wardsboro Fourth of July Street Fair, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the citizens of Wardsboro on the 50th anniversary of the wonderful Wardsboro Fourth of July Street Fair, and be it further
