NO. R-107. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE 5TH GRADERS AT THE STATE STREET SCHOOL IN WINDSOR, AND THEIR TEACHER DAPHNE KLEIN, FOR THEIR SPECIAL EFFORTS TO ASSIST THE VILLAGE OF EL ROSARIO, HONDURAS.

Whereas, the fifth grade class at the State Street School in Windsor, with the help of their able teacher Daphne Klein, has demonstrated extraordinary initiative and concern in completing its special project to aid the Honduran village of El Rosario which Hurricane Mitch severely damaged in the fall of 1998, and
Whereas, Carol Pierson and Dean Seibert, M.D. visited the class and presented a slide show of their journey to El Rosario and inspired the youngsters to assist this needy village, and
Whereas, the greatly moved youngsters then drew on their own creativity, ingenuity and limited personal resources and made a variety of crafts, collected used books and sold these items at school sales each morning during the week prior to the December school vacation, and
Whereas, the proceeds from this endeavor totaled $552.67, and the class forwarded this as a check to the organization Americans Caring, Teaching, Sharing (ACT-Honduras) and designated that the money be used to purchase medical supplies for the village of El Rosario, and
Whereas, on learning that the school in El Rosario was in dire need of supplies, the class sent two new soccer balls and a box of State Street School pencils for the children in the village, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the fifth grade students at the State Street School in Windsor, including Kyle Adriance, Christine Alarcon, Breanne Boudro, Ben Bridge, Erica Canales, Sierra Connolly, Justin George, Tom Gould, Tiffanie Hogge, Troy Hurlburt, Jason Kendall, Daniel LaVanway, Eric Marechaux, Joe McHugh, Charlie Murphy, Christian Pierce and Scott Sanborn and their teacher Daphne Klein for the commitment and caring for those less fortunate that they demonstrated in completing their special project on behalf of the village and children of El Rosario, Honduras, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Daphne Klein at the State Street School in Windsor, to Carol Pierson and to Dean Seibert of ACTS.
