NO. R-99. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE UNITED CHRISTIAN ACADEMY CRUSADERS 1999 DIVISION IV CHAMPIONSHIP BASKETBALL TEAM.

(J.R.H. 77)

Offered by: Representative Sheltra of Derby.

Whereas, throughout the 1998-1999 interscholastic basketball season, United Christian Academy Crusaders boys' basketball team members have consistently played a sharp and winning game that earned them a well deserved record of 19-1 as they entered the championship game in Barre, as the second-seeded team against their highly respected top-seeded opponent team Blue Mountain Union High School, and

Whereas, despite Blue Mountain's 10-point lead with only six minutes and 30 seconds remaining in the game, the Crusaders began a late and highly effective rally which culminated in a spectacular three-point play expertly executed by Aaron Lussier with less than 30 seconds until the final whistle, and

Whereas, Ingo Hofmann assured the Crusaders' come from behind triumph when his carefully aimed free throw sank through the hoop with only 18.1 seconds to play, and

Whereas, all the players on the United Christian team, including Jeff Allen, Reg Chapple, Darby Cheney, Brad Delabruere, Ingo Hofmann, Aaaron Lussier, Paul Smith, brothers Joe and Tom Witherspoon and Jon Wood, were valuable contributors of their time and talents to the Crusaders' championship season, and

Whereas, the inspirational and dedicated leadership of Coaches Reginald Chapple, Sr. and David Strepka was a crucial factor in the team's success, and

Whereas, there is much debate in our society as to the existence and reality of God, the players and fans of United Christian Academy go on public record declaring that the recent basketball championship victory over a talented and determined Blue Mountain team (which included a stunning fourth-quarter rally) was an intervention from God, the proactive, present, and miracle-giving God of the Bible, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Headmaster Mike Witherspoon, Coach Reginald Chapple, Sr. and Assistant Coach David Strepka at the United Christian Academy in Newport.
