NO. R-98. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING PHIL KERIN ON HIS OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS A VERMONT AND NEW ENGLAND CHAMPION HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLER.

Whereas, Phil Kerin has proudly continued his family's illustrious tradition of outstanding interscholastic wrestling, starting with his undefeated record as an eighth grader, and

Whereas, Phil Kerin, as a student at Spaulding High School in Barre City, became only the third Vermonter to win four consecutive individual state wrestling championship titles, and

Whereas, even more impressive is his unique distinction as the only Vermonter to have reached this rarified athletic pinnacle by having wrestled in a different weight class each year, and

Whereas, the 1998-1999 season was his most spectacular as Phil Kerin added to his wrestling laurels the New England individual championship title in the 135-pound weight class, and won the right to participate in the national high school tournament in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and

Whereas, as an interscholastic wrestler, Phil Kerin has demonstrated enormous perseverance and concentration, both in practice sessions and in actual competition, and

Whereas, Phil Kerin has established a standard of excellence that will long stand as an inspiration for all student athletes in Vermont, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates Phil Kerin for his superb interscholastic wrestling record, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Phil Kerin at Spaulding High School.
