Whereas, Mount Anthony Union High School has a proud history of superb interscholastic wrestling teams, having previously won three New England championships and ten consecutive state championships, and

Whereas, at the conclusion of the 1998-1999 season, the outstanding Mt. Anthony wrestlers had once again demonstrated their finesse on the wrestling mats and, in consequence, captured their 11th consecutive state championship title, and

Whereas, as a further example of their wrestling prowess, the team from Mt. Anthony Union High School continued its winning ways as it earned the 1999 New England Wrestling Championship at the regional meet held at Essex High School, and

Whereas, a significant factor in the team's regional victory was the stunning performance of Steve Forrest who clinched the 171-pound class individual title and won the tournament's "Most Outstanding Wrestler" award, and

Whereas, all of the fine Mount Anthony Union High School wrestlers, including team captains Steve Forrest, Todd Crawford, Phil Allen and Ken Jones, as well as Jesse Liimatainen, Brad Krause, Tyler Galipeau, Shawn Ross, Josh Galipeau, Ben Lackey, Eli Hrbek, Ken Ross, T.J.Williams, Jason Bolton, James Mason, and Mike Greene are to be commended for their superb work throughout the wrestling season, and

Whereas, student managers Becky Metcalf, Jaime Capriola, Stacey Rondeau and Heather Bubier provided invaluable assistance to the team members and coaches, and

Whereas, the fantastic coaching staff headed by Scott Legacy, and also comprised of assistant coaches, Bruce Lackey, Bucky Noyes, Eric Becker, Tramain Cassano, Shawn Legacy, Paul Dicranian, Dwayne Metcalf, Roy Slade and Scott Elithorpe, has provided the leadership and guidance to mold the team into a perennial championship squad, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the 1998-1999 Mount Anthony Union High School Vermont and New England Championship Wrestling Team, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Tim Brown, Director of Athletics and Activities at Mount Anthony Union High School and Thomas Gallagher, Superintendent of Schools, Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union.
