Whereas, the Wayside Restaurant and Bakery on the Barre-Montpelier Road is located in the town of Berlin and the city of Montpelier, and

Whereas, the Wayside celebrated its 80th year of service in 1998, and

Whereas, the Wayside was originally built, and opened by, the Ballou family during the summer of 1918, and

Whereas, the Wayside was subsequently sold to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Fish, and on May 17, 1954, their son, George Roy Fish, and his wife, Vivian, took over the restaurant, and

Whereas, the Wayside was again sold on January 3, 1966 to Eugene and Harriet Galfetti, and is currently run by their daughter, Karen Galfetti Zecchinelli and her husband, Brian Zecchinelli, and

Whereas, the Wayside is known as a dining landmark in Vermont, and

Whereas, the Wayside has recently been featured in Gourmet Magazine, the New York Times and Travel & Leisure Magazine, and

Whereas, the Wayside was the site of a special fall foliage broadcast by WCAX-TV in recognition of its 80th anniversary this past year, and

Whereas, the Wayside is a well-known eatery for members of the legislature during the session, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly send their congratulations and best wishes to the Galfetti and Zecchinelli families on the continuous operation of their outstanding landmark restaurant, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to both families at the Wayside Restaurant and Bakery.
