NO. R-44. JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING AUDREY PARK.
Offered by: Representatives Mazur of South Burlington, Flaherty of South Burlington, Pugh of South Burlington and Wheeler of Burlington.
Whereas, Audrey Park has dedicated her professional career and personal life to bettering the lives of children in order that they can truly achieve their full potential, and
Whereas, she worked for many years as a kindergarten teacher and later as a social worker, and
Whereas, after moving to Vermont, Audrey Park embarked on a new and emotionally rewarding career as a foster parent, drawing on her own parental experience as a mother of four birth children and one adopted child, and
Whereas, since 1981, her South Burlington residence has served as a physical and emotional way station for dozens of youngsters who require a temporary abode and an inspirational adult role model, and
Whereas, on numerous occasions, Audrey Park has affirmatively responded to the sudden requests of law enforcement officials to provide temporary shelter and sustenance to children in desperate need of a bed and a little human kindness, and
Whereas, her foster children have remained under her care for periods as short as a few hours to as long as five years, and
Whereas, these youngsters have come from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds, and
Whereas, Audrey Park's efforts have brightened the lives of, and kindled new hope in, the children who have dwelled under her protective roof, and
Whereas, in recognition of this most unusual and treasured foster parent, the Vermont chapters of Delta Kappa Gamma awarded her their Outstanding Service to Education Award, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly is pleased to congratulate Audrey Park on her much deserved receipt of Delta Kappa Gamma's Outstanding Service to Education Award, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Audrey Park.
