Whereas, Michael (Mike) DeBonis was a gentle and kind person who was much beloved by the residents of Poultney where he resided his entire life, and
Whereas, as one of ten children, he performed his share of chores on the family farm, but Mike's real love was baseball, which he played with great enthusiasm as part of a hay truck traveling team of players from three families, and
Whereas, his love of baseball led in 1957 to his cofounding the Poultney Little League with which he was actively involved for many years, and
Whereas, professionally, Mike DeBonis worked for nearly a quarter of a century for the U.S. Soil Conservation Service and, until his death, managed his own business, the DeBonis Landscaping Service, and
Whereas, Mike followed a family tradition of civic participation, having served on both the Poultney Zoning Board and Planning Commission, and as the town's zoning administrator, and
Whereas, he succeeded his brother Dan as Poultney's representative to the General Assembly, serving with distinction for a decade, and
Whereas, as the House's elder statesman, his eagerly anticipated daily motion of adjournment became his personal hallmark, and
Whereas, he was devotedly married for 56 years to his adoring wife Barbara and they were the proud parents of two daughters and a son, grandparents of six children and great-grandparents of three children, and
Whereas, the members of both legislative chambers were truly saddened to learn of Mike's passing, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly warmly remembers former Representative Michael DeBonis who was much admired by his legislative colleagues and many friends in Poultney, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Barbara DeBonis.
