NO. R-39. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING MARSHALL, MINOR AND BRENDA CLARK ON THEIR BEING AWARDED THE VERMONT GROCERS' ASSOCIATION'S 1998 "GROCER OF THE YEAR" AWARD.
Offered by: Representatives Hube of Londonderry and Nitka of Ludlow.
Whereas, the Clark family has a long history in the retail grocery business, beginning in 1927 when Minor Clark operated a store in East Arlington, Vermont, and
Whereas, the store became affiliated with the Independent Grocers Alliance in 1931, and
Whereas, Ray and Ardis Clark left the family store in 1959 to purchase the Spofford IGA, and
Whereas, the Clark's IGA stores have been serving the people of Ludlow and Londonderry for 35 years, beginning with Ludlow in 1964 and Londonderry in 1974, and
Whereas, Ray and Ardis Clark retired in 1989, passing the business to the third generation, Marshall, Minor and Brenda Clark, and
Whereas, the stores have been expanded and renovated to better serve the growing Ludlow and Londonderry communities, and
Whereas, the Clark family and employees have contributed to the welfare and betterment of their community as a major part of the Clarks' way of doing business, including generous supporters of community events and charitable fundraisers such as little league, MS ski races, Vermont Grocers' Scholarship Program, Special Olympics, Londonderry Center, and American Cancer Society, and
Whereas, the Clark family was chosen "Grocers of the Year" for 1998, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates Marshall, Minor and Brenda Clark, owners of Clark's IGAs in Ludlow and Londonderry, on their being awarded the Vermont Grocers' Association 1998, "Grocer of the Year" Award, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Marshall, Minor and Brenda Clark of Londonderry and Ludlow.
