Whereas, George H. Paine was a native of Craftsbury, and he resided in Morrisville for over half a century, and

Whereas, he was a successful entrepreneur who operated a restaurant and a car wash, and had also been the superintendent at a woolen mill, and

Whereas, George H. Paine was involved in the community activities of both the young and old, having served on the local executive board of the Boy Scouts, as an organizer of, and volunteer at, the Lamoille County Senior Citizens Center and as a member of the Lamoille County Office on Aging, and

Whereas, he proudly served the citizens of Morristown for a decade from 1964-1974 on the municipality's selectboard, and

Whereas, George H. Paine was interested in the political and governmental issues on the state level and faithfully served his Lamoille County constituents in the Vermont House of Representatives for four successive terms from 1969-1976, and

Whereas, subsequent to his local and state legislative service, George H. Paine was appointed for six consecutive terms to the Vermont State Transportation Board where his thoughtful advice was much appreciated by his fellow board members, and

Whereas, he was a member of many fraternal organizations, including the Rotary Club and the Masons, and

Whereas, for 62 years, George H. Paine was the loving husband of Irene Paine and was also a proud father and grandfather, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly extends its sincere sympathy to the family of former Representative George H. Paine on the occasion of his passing, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Irene Paine in Morrisville.
