Whereas, Sadie White was born in Bolton and resided in Burlington for many years, and

Whereas, during her long and active 98 years, she greatly contributed to improving the quality of civic life for the residents of both Burlington and the state of Vermont, and

Whereas, at the age of 66, when most persons are contemplating retirement, Sadie White began her extensive career as an elected representative by winning a seat in the Vermont House of Representatives, and

Whereas, her enthusiastic participation in the state legislative process continued for a decade and a half, after which she served a term on the Burlington City Council before concluding her legislative career by returning to the House, and

Whereas, Sadie White's tenure in the General Assembly paralleled her membership in the Order of Women Legislators, and

Whereas, for decades she was an active and admired political activist in Vermont, including the Chittenden County Democratic Women, and

Whereas, in addition to representing the citizens of Burlington in both the state and municipal legislatures, Sadie White also brought her wisdom and skills to the position of justice of the peace, and

Whereas, her community activities extended beyond the political arena and were exemplified by her long time membership of both the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Ladies'Auxiliary, having served as president of the latter, and

Whereas, her vibrant presence in the city of Burlington's civic and community activities will be fondly remembered and truly missed, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly celebrates the life, and notes with sadness the passing of former Representative Sadie White of Burlington, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Sadie White's sister, Ethel Hitchcock of Burlington.
