NO. R-4. JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING THE MEMORY OF LANCE CORPORAL LUCAS J. WILLIAMS OF BAKERSFIELD,VERMONT.

Whereas, Lucas J. Williams was born in St. Albans and grew up in Bakersfield, and

Whereas, he was a graduate of Enosburg Falls High School, and

Whereas, Lucas J. Williams was an outdoorsman who avidly hiked the Green Mountains and became so proficient a snowboarder that he was hired as an instructor at the Jay Peak Ski Area, and

Whereas, he was a deeply patriotic person who decided from an early age to serve his nation as a member of the United States Marine Corps, and

Whereas, upon completion of boot camp, Lucas J. Williams proceeded into the infantry and became a Marine grunt, in which role his solid family background and powerful physical strength proved ideal, and

Whereas, he was assigned to Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines where he quickly adapted to his duties as a TOW missile gunner, and

Whereas, his most recent assignment was in Kuwait City where American forces remain ready to respond to events in the Persian Gulf, and

Whereas, on Tuesday, December 22, 1998, Lucas J. William's young life and promising future were tragically terminated when he perished after the HumVee in which he was assigned overturned during maneuvers, and

Whereas, he was a truly caring, considerate and special person who gave with his heart and a warm smile, and

Whereas, he was deeply loved by his family and friends and greatly respected in his community, and

Whereas, while Lucas J. Williams's friendly demeanor will be sorely missed, the memory of his life and personal sacrifice will long endure, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the members of the Vermont General Assembly are profoundly saddened by the death of Lance Corporal Lucas J. Williams and extend their sincere sympathy to his parents, Clifford and Rosalie Williams, to his sisters, Terah and Celia, to his grandmothers, Marlene Williams and Leona Snide, and to his fiancée, Carrie Mader, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Clifford and Rosalie Williams, Marlene Williams and Leona Snide, and Carrie Mader.
