ACT NO. 26
Outpatient Contraceptive Services; Health Insurance
This act requires all health insurance policies issued by commercial health insurance companies, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and health maintenance organizations to include coverage for outpatient contraceptive services including sterilizations, and requires coverage for the purchase of all prescription contraceptives and prescription contraceptive devices approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration, except that policies are not required to provide coverage of prescription contraceptives and prescription contraceptive devices if the policy does not provide coverage of prescription drugs.
The requirements of the act are phased in between October 1, 1999 and October 1, 2000 as plans are offered, issued or renewed.
