ACT NO. 16

(H.351)

Health Insurance; Chiropractic Services

This act requires all health insurance policies issued by commercial health insurance companies, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and health maintenance organizations to include coverage of certain chiropractic services. Policies are not required to cover "the treatment of any visceral condition arising from problems or dysfunctions of the abdominal or thoracic organs", and the insurer may require that services be provided by a chiropractic physician under contract with the health plan or upon referral from a health plan physician.

The requirements of the act are phased in between October 1, 1999 and October 1, 2000 as plans are offered, issued or renewed.

Effective Date: July 1, 1999
