Whereas, the varsity wrestling teams of Mt. Anthony Union High School have been amongst the best in New England having won 61 tournament championships beginning in 1992, and
Whereas, this tradition of outstanding athletic achievement was reaffirmed when the Mt. Anthony Patriots easily captured their ninth consecutive state championship earning 293 and one-half points, and
Whereas, Patriot wrestlers Dwayne Metcalf, Jeremiah Rogers, Matt Stratton, Steve Forrest, Steve Gore and Derrick Tienken were each declared individual state champions in his respective weight class, and
Whereas, Brian Pitaniello, Pat Gavin, Rick Bartholdi, Neil Shulman, Kevin Brown, Jason Dicranian, Bernie Barriere and Duane Hrbek, all made essential contributions to the 1996-1997 seasons stunning team performance, and
Whereas, in addition to clinching the state championship, the Patriots won their second New England title, and will therefore be inducted into the Council of the New England Secondary Schools Principals Association Wrestling Hall of Fame, and
Whereas, the history of wrestling success at Mt. Anthony can largely be attributed to the superb coaching of Scott Legacy, who is also an alumnus of the Mt. Anthony wrestling team, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly is pleased to congratulate the Mt. Anthony Union High School wrestling team, both for winning the 1996-1997 state championship and especially for its induction into the New England Secondary Schools Principals Association Hall of Fame, and be it further
Resolved: That the Clerk of the House be directed to prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation at Mt. Anthony High School.
