NO. R-76. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE NCAA DIVISION III MIDDLEBURY PANTHERS’ MEN’S ICE HOCKEY TEAM.

(J.R.S. 36)

Offered by: Senator Ready of Addison County.

Whereas, championship intercollegiate men’s ice hockey has become a sporting tradition at Middlebury College, and

Whereas, after clinching two consecutive National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III crowns, the rejuvenated Middlebury Panthers were enthusiastically determined to skate their way across the frozen ice of Duke Nelson Arena to a third national title, and

Whereas, over the weeks and months, the Panthers continuously confronted teams which exhibited sparkling offensive strategies and powerful defensive lines, and

Whereas, despite these competitive challenges, the Panthers superbly persevered and advanced to the NCAA Division III championship game against the Wisconsin Superior Yellowjackets with an impressive record of 20-3-2, and

Whereas, although his team was initially behind 1-0, Panther freshman Curt Goldman, expertly assisted by teammate Sebastian Bilodeau, executed Middlebury’s first goal by backhanding the puck into the Wisconsin Superior net and thus tying the score at one all, and

Whereas, shortly thereafter, Middlebury’s Ross Sealfan broke the tie by once again sending the puck across the scoring line, and

Whereas, Panther rookie John Giannacopoulas assured the 3-2 Middlebury victory with a critical third goal, and

Whereas, the vigorous play of Mark Spence, Nicolai Bobrov and Mike Anastasio, as well as the superb defensive moves of goalie Chris Farion, were pivotal in the Panthers’ victorious performance throughout the season, and

Whereas, coach Bill Beaney deserves special recognition for his stupendous leadership of the Middlebury men’s hockey program, now therefore be it
