NO. R-62. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE 1996-1997 OTTER VALLEY UNION HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION II CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING TEAM.

Whereas, the Otter Valley Union High School Otters Wrestling Team completed a fine regular season performance in its 27 meets of 15 victories, 10 defeats and two ties, and
Whereas, their demonstrated strength led their supporters to envision a repeat performance of the 1995 Division II championship season, and
Whereas, at the playoff tournament that was held at Mt. Abraham Union High School on February 27, 1997, the Otters faced the difficult task of defeating 14 other
well-prepared high school wrestling squads, and
Whereas, the Otters aggressive approach to their sport and successive pinning throughout the tourney proved to be the critical ingredients that culminated in their
168-point total and divisional title victory, and
Whereas, Jason Minor, inspired by his teams results at the playoff tournament, continued the Otters winning streak by capturing the individual state championship in the 112-pound class on March 1 at the state championships that were held at Essex High School, and
Whereas, fellow teammate R. J. Lalumiere was the 6th place finisher in the 152-pound class at the New England Wrestling Championship that was held on March 18 in Glastonbury, Connecticut, and
Whereas, coaches Kirk Israel and Tim Ryan should be very proud of their teams and individual student wrestlers accomplishments, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly is pleased to congratulate the wrestling Otters on both their Division II title and individual athletic achievements, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to principal Gary Tabor at Otter Valley Union High School.
