NO. R-37. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING GAIL JETTE AND THE MIDDLEBURY UNION HIGH SCHOOL FIELD HOCKEY TEAM.

Whereas, Gail Jette, as a high school field hockey coach, has dedicated her professional career to the fostering of interscholastic athletic competition opportunities for young women, and
Whereas, she successfully coached her Middlebury Union High School team to a 1-0 final playoff victory over Rutland High School and the 1996 Division I Field Hockey championship, and
Whereas, her 1996 team compiled a most enviable record of 16-0-1, including a stunning record of 15 shutout victories while outscoring their opponents by an overwhelming tally of 42-3, and
Whereas, during her 32 years as the Middlebury Union High School field hockey coach, Gail Jette has led her players to an amazing 321 victories while only sustaining 63 losses and 67 ties, and
Whereas, over the course of those years, her teams have scored a total of 1,053 goals and have been crowned state champions on seven occasions, and
Whereas, Gail Jette has uniquely inspired over a generation of enthusiastic young women athletes to perform their very best, both on the field and in the classroom, and
Whereas, the many women who played under her direction are proud of the respect and honor that she has bestowed on their alma mater, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates both the 1996 Middlebury Union High School Field Hockey Team on its winning the Division I Championship, and its coach Gail Jette for a remarkable career as a leader in interscholastic womens sports, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Gail Jette at Middlebury Union High School.
