Whereas, the Montpelier High School Football Solons began the 1996 season with high expectations after clinching the 1995 Division IV championship, and

Whereas, during the fall of 1996, the Solons played superb football compiling an undefeated record at the close of the regular season, and

Whereas, the impressive caliber of their season-long string of triumphs prompted their fans to eagerly anticipate the championship game against a formidable opponent, and

Whereas, in the concluding 11 seconds of a closely matched first half, the Solons broke loose with a quickly executed 37 yard gain that concluded a 63 yard offensive march and enabled the Montpelier squad to leave the field at halftime with a one touchdown advantage, and

Whereas, the Solons’ offensive attack, including a 25 yard touchdown, resulted in a final Solon victory by the score of 40-26, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That congratulations are extended to the Montpelier High School Football Solons and coach Neil Martel on winning their second consecutive Division IV football championship, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to coach Neil Martel at Montpelier High School.
