Whereas, David Cumming has faithfully served the State of Vermont since July 3, 1952, when he commenced employment at the Department of Education, and

Whereas, except for his military commitment, he remained a state employee for over four decades until retiring on December 31, 1996, and

Whereas, David Cumming transferred to the Department of Public Safety in July, 1960, where he assumed the position of private secretary to the Commissioner, and

Whereas, he proudly performed the critical administrative duties associated with this position for eight Commissioners of Public Safety, including William H. Baumann,

E. A. Alexander, E. W. Corcoran, Francis E. Lynch, Warren M. Cone, Paul R. Philbrook, Charles A. Bristow and A. James Walton, Jr., and

Whereas, his performance was judged to be so outstanding that he was made an honorary Vermont State Police Sergeant Major with all the rights and privileges that are associated with that special designation, and

Whereas, during his many years at the Department of Public Safety he was extraordinarily helpful in providing informational assistance to the members and staff of the General Assembly, and

Whereas, after three and one-half decades at the Department of Public Safety and over four decades in state service, David Cumming now has the opportunity to pursue personal interests and enjoy more time with his family, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly extends its congratulations to David Cumming upon completing an outstanding career as a dedicated public servant in the service of the State of Vermont and wishes him the very best for the years ahead, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to David Cumming.
