NO. R-21. JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING GAIL M. CUMMING ON HER RETIREMENT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE.

Whereas, Gail M. Cumming initially entered state service at the Department of Education where she was employed from 1954 to 1964, and

Whereas, after taking time off to raise her family, she resumed her state employment career as the temporary private secretary to the Commissioner of Agriculture in July 1971, and

Whereas, she assumed the position on a permanent basis in August 1972, and

Whereas, Gail M. Cumming’s job title was changed to administrative secretary in December 1986, and

Whereas, she had the privilege of providing administrative support services to nine Agriculture Commissioners, including Edward Eurich, Leo O’Brien, Jr., Robert Brannon, Ronald Albee, William Darrow, George Dunsmore, Paul Stone, Donald George and Leon Graves, and worked for several commissioners when they subsequently were reappointed to the position, and

Whereas, all the Agriculture Commissioners have valued Gail M. Cumming’s competence and excellent communications skills as an essential element of the department’s operations and administrative transitions, and

Whereas, she has actively sought to improve department morale and has coordinated many celebrations of employees’ professional achievements, and

Whereas, after over 38 years of outstanding service, Gail M. Cumming retired in September 1996, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly recognizes the many career accomplishments of Gail M. Cumming and her record as an exemplary state employee, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Gail M. Cumming.
