Whereas, the North Country Union High School Falcons had triumphed in 1995 as the Division III state football champions, and

Whereas, in search of new gridiron challenges, the Falcons flew upward to the more grueling competition of Division II, and

Whereas, their superlative strategy and precision play propelled them forward to a berth in the championship game against the top seeded St. Johnsbury Academy Hilltoppers, and

Whereas, the game was played under the most unfavorable weather conditions that included a persistently strong rain throughout the evening, and

Whereas, the first half of this predominately defensive contest was scoreless although Falcon Tim Wilcox magnificently dashed through the mud for an impressive 70 yard march towards the goal line, and

Whereas, drenched Falcon Greg Willis pushed through a mud soaked field for a 38 yard gain that laid the groundwork for the Falcons’ first touchdown, and

Whereas, the extraordinary alert North Country defensive players Todd Wright and Brent Austin intercepted St. Johnsbury passes that clinched the evening’s concluding touchdown for a 20-0 victory, and

Whereas, coach Bob Davis is extraordinarily proud of his entire team including players J.D. Williams, Jason Belisle, Josh Nicosia, Tim Clark, Josh Vos, Sean Butterfield, Justin Butterfield, Matt Davis, Tim Stanzione, Jason Stanzione, Gregg Rose, and Kevin Belida, and

Whereas, the Falcons’ victory may well mark the only time that a Vermont high school football team has won two consecutive championships after moving up to a higher division, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly is pleased to congratulate the North Country Union High School Football Falcons on their very unique path to the 1996 Division II Championship, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to coach Bob Davis at North Country Union High School.
