NO. R-9. JOINT RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE VERMONT ECUMENICAL COUNCILS CAMPAIGN TO END CHILDHOOD HUNGER AND POVERTY IN VERMONT.

Whereas, 17,000 Vermont children have insufficient food to satisfy their basic nutritional needs, and
Whereas, 23,000 Vermont children live in poverty, and
Whereas, no Vermont child should go to bed hungry or suffer from an inadequate diet, and
Whereas, recognizing that many Vermont children lack sufficient food, adequate medical care, and shelter, the Vermont Ecumenical Council through the Kids First End Childhood Poverty Campaign is conducting a vigil and three-day fast in Montpelier starting January 8, 1997, to call attention to the problems generated by childhood poverty, and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly share this concern for Vermonts children, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly acknowledges the sincere efforts of the Kids First End Childhood Poverty Campaign and will strive to end childhood hunger and poverty in Vermont, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Kids First End Childhood Poverty Campaign.
