NO. R-246. JOINT RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING THE ANNUAL ROTARY CLUB NORTHEASTERN VERMONT MUSIC FESTIVAL.

Whereas, high school musicians in Vermont are proud of their instrumental and vocal skills, and
Whereas, the Rotary Club of Newport has for over half a century afforded many of these fine singers and instrumentalists a special opportunity to perform through its sponsorship of the Northeastern Vermont Music Festival, and
Whereas, the three days of performances on April 2, 3, and 4 included the Northeastern Music Vermont Festival's principal performance groups, the Festival Band, directed by Burlington High School's Music Director Melissa Stavola; the Festival Chorus, led by Spaulding High School's Fine Arts Department Chair Arthur Zorn and managed by Lyndon Institute's Jazz Ensemble Director John Padden; and the Festival Wind Ensemble under the leadership of Harwood Union High School's Band Director Chris Rivers, and
Whereas, these enthusiastic student performers presented wonderful concerts of classical and contemporary music to audiences at the North Country Union High School, assisted by Choral Director Glory Douglass, who dedicated countless hours to ensuring the festival's rousing success, and Vivian Spates, who beautifully accompanied the chorus, and
Whereas, the Newport Rotary Club, through its Richard Croudis Music Fund honors this distinguished Newport music educator by assisting in financing the collegiate music education of festival participants, as well as music enrichment programs at area schools, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly honors and commemorates the Rotary Club of Newport's 54 years of sponsoring the Northeastern Vermont Music Festival, and the dedicated teachers and students whose combined efforts each year attract lovers of fine music to Newport, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send copies of this resolution tothe persons and organizations that have helped to make this annual festival a wonderful experience.
