NO. R-242. JOINT RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE WILDLIFE FOUNDATION OF VERMONT.

Whereas, the public interest of Vermont is served by preservation, protection and management of its wildlife, including its fish, and its wildlife habitat, and
Whereas, Vermont's citizens, and its children in particular, have a great interest in learning about its wildlife and how they can support and participate in activities that will promote wildlife preservation and effective management, and
Whereas, to respond to this interest, there is a great need for wildlife education and outreach programs and organized opportunities for citizens to assist in wildlife habitat protection, and
Whereas, state and local government cannot, by itself, meet this responsibility, but should be part of this important educational process, and
Whereas, the Wildlife Foundation of Vermont, a not-for-profit corporation, has been formed as a public-private partnership that is intended to promote the preservation and management of Vermont wildlife and wildlife habitat, and
Whereas, the Wildlife Foundation of Vermont will sponsor programs to educate Vermont's citizens, particularly its children, on its wildlife and management, and to provide opportunities for citizen participation in wildlife preservation and management, and
Whereas, these educational and participatory programs should be conducted throughout the state, in order that all Vermonters may take full advantage of these special opportunities to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the state's wildlife population, and
Whereas, the Wildlife Foundation of Vermont has as its purpose the development and acquisition of private resources, to match with public resources, to carry out its mission, and
Whereas, the Wildlife Foundation of Vermont has indicated its intention to appoint two members of the General Assembly to its board, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly supports the mission and proposed activities of the Wildlife Foundation of Vermont, and will continue to seek ways to assist in promoting the preservation, protection and management of Vermont's wildlife and in supporting wildlife educational programs, and be it further
Resolved: That the General Assembly encourages the Wildlife Foundation of Vermont to pursue their mission on a statewide basis and include geographic representation on its board, and be it further
Resolved: That the General Assembly encourages the Wildlife Foundation of Vermont to make its annual reports of activities available to members of the General Assembly for their information, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Wildlife Foundation of Vermont.
