NO. R-234. JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING ALL THOSE RESPONDING TO THE NEEDS OF VERMONT CITIZENS AFFECTED BY NATURAL DISASTERS FROM 1995 THROUGH 1998.

Whereas, devastating natural disasters, occurring within the State of Vermont from 1995 through 1998, demanded a coordinated and timely response, and

Whereas, many Vermonters and out-of-state residents participated in alleviating the dangerous, unhealthful, and stressful conditions caused by several floods and the northwestern Vermont ice storm, and

Whereas, these individuals risked personal injury and endured demanding and harsh working conditions, and

Whereas, they coordinated emergency response, restored essential services, prevented disease outbreaks, and provided food, shelter, and comfort to the displaced, and

Whereas, these members of the public; the military; local, federal, and state employees; and members of many private, nonprofit and volunteer organizations performed their tasks in a selfless and exemplary manner, both at and behind the scenes,

now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly is pleased to honor those individuals who worked tirelessly and courageously on behalf of Vermonters in need.
