NO. R-210. JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING THE 1998 ESSEX HIGH SCHOOL HORNETS DIVISION I CHAMPIONSHIP BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAM.

Offered by: Representatives Sweetser of Essex, Blanchard of Essex, Fox of Essex, Heath of Westford and Parizo of Essex.

Whereas, the Essex High School Boys' Basketball Hornets had gone nearly two decades without capturing the Division I Championship, and

Whereas, the 1997-1998 squad featured an exceptionally well-disciplined and dedicated group of players, and

Whereas, throughout the season, the Hornets repeatedly demonstrated that they were undeniably among the top contenders to win the 1998 Division I Championship, and

Whereas, after eliminating their preliminary opponents, the top-seeded Hornets confidently assembled court side at the University of Vermont's Patrick Gymnasium for the decisive contest against the highly regarded Brattleboro Colonials, and

Whereas, despite trailing by the seemingly overwhelming score of 17-1 at the conclusion of the first period, the Hornets persistently battled during the remainder of the game to reach a 47-all tie at the conclusion of regulation play, and

Whereas, the resulting overtime period proved to be the Hornet's golden moment as they defeated the Colonials 64-57 by outscoring their opponents 17-10, and

Whereas, this special victory marked the Hornets' 12th consecutive win and completed a remarkable 22-2 season under the superb leadership of 1998 Metro Coach of the Year, Rob Reardon who had able Assistant Coaches, Jeff Goodrich and Jim Harton at his side, and

Whereas, all time Essex scorer Cam Robinson was the recipient of several post-season awards, including USA Today's Vermont Player of the Year, and

Whereas, Hornet players Jeff Barry, Jeremy Donahue, Ben Gregory, Justin Horne, Luke Jean, Curtis King, Brad Luck, Matt McAuliffe, Tom Newton, Matt Sheftic, Chris Toppings and Landon Warmouth, as well as team manager Pat Lynch, and each deserves special recognition for his extraordinary effort, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the 1998 Essex High School HornetsDivision I Championship Boys' Basketball Team, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Coach Rob Reardon at Essex High School.
