Whereas, Barbara Wright resided next to the Brownington Town Hall on Town Meeting Day in 1968 when a vacancy arose in the office of town clerk, and

Whereas, her proximity to the town offices, and her willingness to accept the position, made her the logical candidate to assume this crucial town responsibility, and

Whereas, Barbara Wright immediately impressed the community with her energy and dedication in serving the residents of Brownington, thereby becoming an essential person in the operation of Brownington's municipal government, while her stellar performance and delightful personality assured her repeated reelection, and

Whereas, after three decades of faithful and extraordinary service, Barbara Wright has decided to retire and spend more time with her husband, children and grandchildren, and

Whereas, in appreciation of her extraordinary tenure as Brownington town clerk, Brownington voters set aside time during the 1998 March Town Meeting to honor her work, and

Whereas, although retiring from her official duties, she will remain one of Brownington's most cherished and beloved citizens, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly extends its congratulations to Barbara Wright on the conclusion of her outstanding career as Brownington town clerk and wishes her the very best in the years ahead, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Barbara Wright in Brownington, and to the Brownington Board of Selectmen, with a request that the resolution be prominently displayed at the Brownington town office.
