NO. R-201. JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING THE OUTSTANDING MUSICIANSHIP AND THANKING THE NORTH COUNTRY UNION HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT BAND.

Whereas, the shimmering brass, melodious woodwinds and commanding percussion sounds of a concert band evoke our wonderful musical heritage that was popularized by the great American conductor, John Philip Sousa, and

Whereas, listening to a concert band performance reminds us of a summer's evening concert on the town common as well as the marching extravaganzas that entertain us at parades and sporting events, and

Whereas, in order for these great traditions to continue, new generations of eager young musicians must be taught the rudiments and dynamics of American concert band music, and

Whereas, there is no better example of an outstanding youth ensemble than the North Country Union High School Concert Band, and

Whereas, the band's director, James Wagner Chapman, who is a truly outstanding conductor and teacher, musically inspires his students to play with precision and vitality, and

Whereas, as was most convincingly demonstrated before a delighted audience at a

State House Farmers' Night concert on March 11, 1998, the North Country Union High School Concert Band always thrills its listeners with a polished performance that never fails to please, and

Whereas, these fine young musicians, in their spiffy red uniforms, were a wonder to behold as they meticulously followed their conductor's baton while they magnificently rendered selections from both the concert band and musical theater repertoires, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly thanks the members the North Country Union High School Concert Band and their marvelous conductor, James Wagner Chapman, for warming acold wintry Montpelier night with a most memorable musical performance, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to James Wagner Chapman at North Country Union High School.
