NO. R-186. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE BURLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL SEAHORSES 1997 DIVISION I CHAMPIONSHIP BOYS SOCCER TEAM.
Offered by: Representatives Sullivan of Burlington, Lafayette of Burlington and Zuckerman of Burlington.
Whereas, the Burlington High School Seahorses' Boys Soccer Team has developed a well-earned reputation as a perennial leader in Division I competition, and
Whereas, in 1996, the highly proficient Seahorses completed their season undefeated, amassing a total of 16 victories, no defeats and two ties, as they were crowned Division I co-champions, and
Whereas, the Seahorses commenced the 1997 season, both mentally and physically prepared to capture a second consecutive divisional title, and
Whereas, the Burlington goalies brilliantly defended their territory while the offensive players repeatedly scored the necessary goals to assure a victorious game, and
Whereas, their admirable 1997 season concluded with a 3-0 final victory over their Chittenden County rivals from Essex High School as they once again won the Division I Title, and
Whereas, from the 1997 team there were selected four All-State players, three All-Free Press players, two Twin State players, and perhaps most significantly, Vermont's only NSCAA/UMBRO All-American, and
Whereas, the entire 1997 roster, including Robbie Bean, Jason Bedard, Chad Bouchard, Nick Brodeur, Greg Connolly, Tim Connolly, David Dickson, Nelson Farrell, Jason Frank, Graham Furlong, Ethan Goodkind, Nick Kilbourn, Ben Letourneau, Nelson Martelle, E.J. Rudy and Mike Woulf deserve special mention for their outstanding performances, and
Whereas, the Seahorses' phenomenal success is the result of the dedicated and inspired leadership of Coach Scott Michael Mapes and his able Assistant Coach David Martin, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly extends its congratulations to the Burlington Seahorses' 1997 Division I Championship Boys Soccer Team, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Coach Scott Michael Mapes at Burlington High School.
