NO. R-184. JOINT RESOLUTION IN MEMORY OF FORMER REPRESENTATIVE ROLAND GERVAIS.

Whereas, Roland Gervais was born north of the border in St. Lucien, Quebec but immigrated to the United States and the town of Enosburg at the young age of eight, and

Whereas, he tilled the soil as a farmer for many years, and

Whereas, Roland Gervais' agricultural interests extended beyond his own farm, as he was an active member of the Grange and the American Farm Bureau, as well as having sat on a local Farmers' Home Administration Committee, and

Whereas, desirous of publicly serving his community of Enosburg, Roland Gervais held several municipal positions, including constable, tax collector, selectboard member and town lister, and

Whereas, his fellow citizens in Enosburg were so impressed with his tenure as a municipal official that he was repeatedly elected to the General Assembly for five consecutive terms, and

Whereas, he ably represented his district in the General Assembly where he was a member of the House Municipal Corporations and Appropriations Committees, and

Whereas, he was a deeply devoted family man who was a parishioner at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, and

Whereas, he will truly be missed by his many friends and most especially by his beloved wife, Lillian, 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly extends its sincere condolences on the passing of former Representative Roland Gervais, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State is directed to send a copy of this resolution to Lillian Gervais.
