NO. R-183. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THOSE VERMONTERS WHO ARE PARTICIPATING IN THE JUNIOR MISS PROGRAM.

Whereas, the Junior Miss Contest is a national contest that is definitely not a beauty pageant, and

Whereas, this unique program seeks to reward and encourage excellence among college bound young women, and

Whereas, the Junior Miss Program annually awards approximately five million dollars in scholarships to contestants on the local, state and national levels, and

Whereas, the young contestants are judged on standardized criteria, including a personal interview, creative and performing arts skill, scholastic achievement, physical fitness and presence and composure, and

Whereas, the Junior Miss Program is conducted by a nonprofit organization that includes civic, business and professional leaders, and

Whereas, the 1997 Vermont Junior Miss, Amy Johnson has been an outstanding program representative, and

Whereas, on March 1, the 1998 Vermont Junior Miss will be selected at a ceremony to be held in Vergennes, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly is delighted to congratulate the outstanding young women who are Vermont Junior Miss participants, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Vermont Junior Miss Program.
