NO. R-177. JOINT RESOLUTION HONORING EVELYN DE BRUNE SPRINGSTEAD ON HER 90TH BIRTHDAY.

Whereas, Evelyn De Brune Springstead, a lifelong resident of Vermont, was born in Greensboro on February 26, 1908, and
Whereas, after being graduated from the University of Vermont in 1932, she commenced an extraordinarily personally satisfying career as a music and arts educator, and
Whereas, thousands of elementary and secondary school students across Vermont, in a diverse array of academic settings, including youngsters in Addison, Caledonia, Orange and Washington counties, benefitted from her insightful and informative instruction, and
Whereas, ever desirous of improving her own musical knowledge and pedagogic proficiency, Evelyn earned a graduate degree from her alma mater and attended advanced seminars at colleges in Colorado, Indiana, Oklahoma and Washington State, and
Whereas, mindful that the future of music education required that experienced teachers serve as mentors to their junior colleagues, she worked as a teacher and administrator at the University of Vermont's International Music Educators Clinic and also taught teacher certification courses, and
Whereas, she channeled her own musical talents to the challenging genre of choral directing by leading ensembles of young vocalists at schools and festivals in Vermont and Canada, and
Whereas, as an active professional and civic leader, Evelyn's long list of leadership roles includes service as President of the Vermont Education Association and the Vermont Music Educators Association, membership on the Vermont State Teachers' Retirement Board and chairing the Montpelier Senior Citizens' Advisory Committee,
now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the members of the General Assembly are delighted to congratulate Evelyn
De Brune Springstead on the joyous occasion of her 90th birthday, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Evelyn De Brune Springstead.
