Offered by: Senator Doyle of Washington County, Senator Cummings of Washington County and Senator Spaulding of Washington County.

Whereas, Winona Smith was a native of Barre and a graduate of Spaulding High School, and

Whereas, Winona was strongly committed to civic education and citizen participation in the governmental process, and

Whereas, as a veteran member of the Vermont League of Women Voters, Winona Smith acted on her beliefs by facilitating many programs and forums on public issues, and

Whereas, her many years of dedication to the League of Women Voters led to her election as its local chapter president, a position she held for the current term with great distinction, and served on the Board of Directors for the State League of Women Voters, and

Whereas, beyond the civic and political sphere, Winona Smith was an avid outdoors woman who enjoyed bird watching, walking and working in her garden, and

Whereas, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly extends its deepest regrets to the family of Winona E. Smith at the passing of this much admired community leader, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to her son, Wayne Smith of Bristol and the League of Women Voters.
