NO. R-159. JOINT RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING THE PLACEMENT OF A PLAQUE IN HONOR OF FORMER REPRESENTATIVE ROBERT J. HARRIS ON THE WINDSOR-CORNISH BRIDGE.

Whereas, the Windsor-Cornish Bridge spans the majestic Connecticut River, and

Whereas, the citizens of Windsor can proudly proclaim that it is the longest covered bridge in the United States, and

Whereas, annually, thousands of persons traverse this significant link between Vermont and New Hampshire, and

Whereas, an equally significant presence in the life of the town of Windsor has been former Representative Robert J. Harris, who assiduously represented his constituents in Montpelier for nine terms, and

Whereas, his friends and neighbors have decided to honor his long career as a public servant on behalf of the community by placing a commemorative plaque at the Windsor entrance to the bridge, and

Whereas, this very special plaque will read:

Vermont State Representative-1974-1997

Windsor Moderator

Windsor Selectman

In recognition of his dedication

to the people and history of the

communities this bridge connects,

now therefore be it

Resolved by the House of Representatives and Senate:

That the General Assembly is pleased to congratulate former Representative Bob Harris on the occasion of the placement of this commemorative plaque on the Windsor-Cornish Bridge, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to former Representative Robert J. Harris.
