NO. R-155. JOINT RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE RECIPIENTS OF THE 1997 LOCAL STOREKEEPERS AWARD.

Whereas, many of Vermont's general stores and local markets are rich in history and tradition, some spanning two centuries, and
Whereas, storeowners often work long hours serving their customers and community, and
Whereas, local markets serve their communities as important places to meet, greet and exchange information with neighbors, and
Whereas, over 50 storeowners competing for the 1997 awards received the ultimate compliments through the recommendations of their customers, and
Whereas, grants from the Preservation Trust of Vermont will help this year's winners make improvements to their markets, and
Whereas, the Vermont Grocers' Association joins in appreciation of the Vermont Country Store and the Preservation Trust of Vermont for making these awards possible, now therefore be it
Resolved by the House of Representatives and Senate:
That congratulations are extended to Richard and Thelma Buxton of Buxton's Store in Orwell, Richard and Carole Corbiere of Chick's Market in Winooski, Beth and David Farnham of the Chelsea Country Store, Hugh and Myrna Tallman of Tallman's Store in Belvidere, Chuck Gundersen of the Teago General Store in South Pomfret and Bill and Charlotte Barry of the Tunbridge Village Store for their selection as the 1997 Preservation Trust Local Storekeepers Award, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Richard and Thelma Buxton, Richard and Carole Corbiere, Beth and David Farnham, Hugh and Myrna Tallman, Chuck Gundersen, and Bill and Charlotte Barry.
