NO. R-124. JOINT RESOLUTION IN MEMORY OF FORMER REPRESENTATIVE WALTER MOORE.

Whereas, Walter Moore was a native of Rutland County who excelled in each of his chosen careers as an aviator, educator, Rutland City Alderman, and Vermont State Representative while always remaining unswervingly committed to the needs of his family, and

Whereas, he was graduated from both Mt. St. Joseph Academy and St. Michael's College where he mastered the intricacy and beauty of writing English prose, and

Whereas, Walter Moore served as a United States Army pilot during World War II by commanding B-24 aircraft in the Pacific military theater and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, and

Whereas, after returning home to Vermont, he embarked on a career as one of the first lay teachers at Mt. Saint Joseph's, where his demanding regimen of high standards inspired his students, some of whom became prominent writers, and

Whereas, Walter Moore's academic skills were also ably utilized at the Holy Cross Camp where he assisted in the training of future priests, and

Whereas, desirous of serving his community in the public arena, Walter Moore was elected to the Rutland City Board of Alderman, his tenure concluding with a term as the Board's chair, and

Whereas, recognizing the importance of issues that affect the entire state, in 1974 he successfully sought election to the House of Representatives where he conscientiously represented the citizens of his Rutland City district for several terms, and where as a member, and ultimately vice-chair, of the House Appropriations Committee he was ever mindful of preserving the state's fiscal integrity, and

Whereas, he was the devoted husband of Anita and a proud father and grandfather, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly recognizes the many accomplishments and societal contributions of former Representative Walter Moore and extends its deepest sympathy to his family, and be it further

Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Anita Moore and to Mt. St.Joseph's Academy.
