ACT NO. 163
Administration; Criminal Records Checks
This Act requires the Commissioner of Education, superintendents and headmasters to request a criminal record check, including an FBI fingerprint check, from the Vermont Criminal Information Center for any person applying for an educator's license, a person being recommended for employment in a school and a person who will be working in the school in a position that may result in the person having unsupervised contact with children. People employed on passage of the Act are grandfathered and superintendents and headmasters who have not previously requested criminal background checks on employees do not need to begin to do so until January 1, 1999.
Effective Date: July 1, 1998
