ACT NO. 37

Health; Lead Poisoning; Rental Housing; Child Care Centers

This act revises several provisions of Act No. 165 of 1996 which established requirements for owners of rental housing and child care centers to remove or contain lead-based paint hazards.

The act extends the date for required on-site inspections from January 1, 1997 to July 1, 1998; exempts single rooms and units in a hotel, motel or other lodging for transient occupancy from "target housing" under the act; covers only those child care facilities constructed prior to 1978; clarifies that the act extends to areas frequented by children six years of age or younger rather than less than six years of age; allows attendance at training programs by the owner’s property manager to satisfy training program attendance requirements; and allows maintenance work to be either performed or supervised by a person who has completed the training program.

Effective date: July 1, 1997
