Montpelier was made
the permanent seat of the legislature in November 1805 with two conditions that
a Capital Building should be completed by the first of September 1808 and that
if future legislature should ever cease to hold their sessions in Montpelier,
the State would pay the city for the value of the property. Beginning in 1808 all sessions have been held
in Montpelier.
