GENERAL FIELD TRIP INFORMATION

Please make sure the teachers and chaperones are aware of the schedule. The tour guides will have copies as well. It is important to be prompt and honor theschedule as we rely on the good will of volunteers called in particularly for your tours and reserve the auditorium specifically for your group.

Teachers should instruct their students that they are visiting a place of business and to behave appropriately: No shouting or running, no food or beverage, no gum, no baseball hats, no touching State House furnishings.

The students will have a better visit if they understand what happens here beforethey arrive. The following web site offers a virtual tour of the State House as a resource for teachers and also instructs how to connect with your local Legislators: www.leg.state.vt.us

Bus drop off is at the top of Gov Aiken Ave , located on the West side of the State House. Bus parking is available at the DET parking lot off Memorial Drive . From there, a free shuttle can take you to the State House. Contact 223-7287 for more information.

Please enter the State House via the West side door. If your State House tour is the first thing on your schedule, a tour guide will meet you when you arrive. Bathrooms are in the West hallway. The Sgt at Arms office is just off the lobby. The folks there, your tour guide, and any State House guard or page can give you directions and answer questions.

You may leave lunches and coats against the far wall in the coat room-the first door on the right in the Hall of Inscriptions or in the coat room on the 3rd floor, West side, off the Gallery. The third floor location is convenient if you are going directly to the cafeteria after being introduced on the Floor of the House.

If you are going to the Supreme Court, you will find bathrooms in the lobby there. In order to get into the Court, you must pass through a metal detector. Please have everyone metal free before you arrive to save time.

If you are going to the Historical Society Museum , please enter the Pavilion Building via the front door on State St .

If you are planning to view a video in the Pavilion Auditorium, please enter the building via the side door on Gov Davis Ave. Pick up the video from the security guard desk in the lobby and return it there when you are finished. Teachers are responsible for running the audio equipment. There is no eating in the auditorium, but you may eat in the hall before you enter the auditorium.

If you are planning to purchase lunch or snacks in the cafeteria, please contact Joanne at 828-2252. The cafeteria serves food from 11-1:30 but during the Session, seating isavailable only until 11:30 in order to make room for the Legislators. If you are bringing brown bag lunches, no need to call Joanne. Please note that food purchased outside of the State House may not be brought into the building. The Food Court is able to provide a pizza party or box lunches.

ANY LAST MINUTE CHANGES, PLEASE CALL 828-2228.
