NO. R-161. House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2003 Woodstock Union High School Wasps girls’ alpine skiing state championship team.

Whereas, on a cold and blustery winter day, despite the at-times challenging wind and reduced visibility, the Woodstock Union High School Wasps’ girls’ alpine skiing team glided its way to the 2003 championship title, and
Whereas, having placed first in the morning’s giant slalom, the Wasps commenced the afternoon’s competition with enthusiastic optimism, and
Whereas, despite their best efforts, two team members missed critical gates, forcing them to hike, an unfortunate occurrence, and a third was disqualified, and
Whereas, with the day quickly waning, Woodstock’s chances of capturing the championship title were growing dimmer by the moment, and
Whereas, Woodstock’s fourth and final skier Shikara Thody, now the Wasps’ only hope, had to complete the course in order to give her team a chance for the title, and
Whereas, she successfully passed through each gate and finished in 55th place, securing the championship for the Wasps, and
Whereas, three Wasp skiers, Brenna Hersey, Jacqueline Kenney, and Lilly McNealus, finished in second, fourth, and eight place, respectively, in the giant slalom, and
Whereas, all of the 2003 state champion skiing Wasps, including Cara Auty, Iris Dougherty, Brenna Hersey, Jacqueline Kenney, Rachel Kuiken, Sarah Lensing, Lilly McNealus, Nicole Podnecky, Veronika Szabo, and Shikara Thody, are to be congratulated, and
Whereas, Coach Steve Foley deserves credit for molding this swift and agile team of outstanding skiers, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the 2003 Woodstock Union High School Wasps’ girls’ alpine skiing state championship team, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Steve Foley at Woodstock Union High School.
