NO. R-132. HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the 2002 Burlington High School Seahorses state girls’ cross country championship team.
Offered by: Representatives Donovan of Burlington, Aswad of Burlington, Atkins of Winooski, Cross of Winooski, Hingtgen of Burlington, Keogh of Burlington, Kiss of Burlington, Larson of Burlington, Tracy of Burlington, Trombley of Grand Isle, Wright of Burlington and Zuckerman of Burlington.
Whereas, following in the running steps of its 2001 predecessors who were ranked 21st nationally, the 2002 Burlington High School Seahorses girls’ cross country track team, ranked 10th in the northeast, was among the school’s strongest and best performing, and
Whereas, having finished a close second in the 2001 state championship tournament, the 2002 girls’ fall running contingent was determined to clinch the championship title, and
Whereas, the superb athletic capabilities of the Seahorses were apparent from the start as these swift and speedy young ladies won their first two meets, and they continued to score in the upper ranks including a first place finish at the Burlington Invitational Tournament, and
Whereas, after coming in a strong second at the Northern Vermont Athletic Conference Championship, the Burlington runners were ready to blaze rapid paths at the Vermont State Championship meet, and
Whereas, on November 2, 2002, under the confident leadership of senior cocaptains Kerry White and Allison Freeman, the Seahorses clinched Burlington High School’s first girls’ cross country state championship crown in 22 years, and
Whereas, the entire team, comprising Kaitlyn Barr, Mollie Campbell, Allison Freeman, Grace Higgins, Claire Whelan, Katie White, and Kerry White, is to be commended for its season-long record of speedy running times and consistently top‑caliber performances, and
Whereas, the Seahorses’ historic season of accomplishment must also be attributed to the tireless effort of head coach Pavel Dvorak, and his able assistant coaches Dan Hagan and Norm Larson, whose conditioning program and careful planning paid off in a spectacular fashion, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly extends congratulations to the 2002 Burlington High School Seahorses girls’ cross country championship team, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Pavel Dvorak at Burlington High School.
