Whereas, local access to high-quality primary health care is often a challenge in rural areas, and

Whereas, in a rural setting which also attracts a large number of visitors, the need for local primary health care services assumes an added dimension, and

Whereas, the Mountain Valley Medical Clinic, located in Londonderry, is a unique local provider of high-quality primary care, and

Whereas, this very special clinic was established in 1976 as a community response to the retirement of the areaís only local physician and to the 45‑minute drive to the nearest hospital, and

Whereas, the state-of-the-art Mountain Valley Medical Clinic came to fruition through the energetic efforts of many volunteers in Londonderry and the surrounding towns, and

Whereas, from its inception, the clinicís operational policy has been to serve local residents and visitors without regard to the ability to pay, and

Whereas, the broad community support and participation in the governance of the Mountain Valley Medical Clinic distinguishes it from other primary care medical facilities, and

Whereas, during the past quarter century, this truly unique facility has served over 300,000 patients with diverse health care needs, and

Whereas, the Mountain Valley Medical Clinic continues to operate with bottom-line losses and relies on community generosity to meet expenses, and

Whereas, the clinic is a model primary health care facility in which the residents of Londonderry and the neighboring municipalities take great pride, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the Mountain Valley Medical Clinic on this very special health care institutionís 25th anniversary and extends best wishes for many years of future success, and be it further

Resolved:† That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Jean Cavanagh at the Mountain Valley Medical Clinic in Londonderry.
