NO. R-90.  House concurrent resolution honoring the 2003 Cabot High School Huskies Division IV boys’ basketball championship team.

Offered by:  Representative Larrabee of Danville.

Offered by:  Senator Cummings of Washington County, Senator Doyle of Washington County and Senator Scott of Washington County.

Whereas, having missed the 2002 Division IV boys’ basketball title by merely a point, the Cabot High School Huskies were mentally and physically prepared to take to the hardwood court in search of the 2003 title, and

Whereas, the Huskies’ season-long dribbling and shooting was superb as they were assigned the top seed in the Division IV playoff competition and faced the third seed, Chelsea High School in the ultimate game, and

Whereas, from the moment of the opening tip-off at the Barre Auditorium, the Huskies’ on-court dominance foretold that Cabot High School history was unfolding before the spectators’ eyes, and

Whereas, before the first period of play was over, the Huskies were the owners of a commanding 16-2 lead, and

Whereas, by the half-time mark, the Cabot lead stood at 29-17, and

Whereas, although Chelsea did narrow the lead temporarily to within six points early in the third quarter, the Huskies’ ultimate triumphant path was never impeded, and

Whereas, when the game was concluded, Cabot, with a solid 63-39 victory, had captured the Division IV championship banner and brought home the school’s first-ever championship in any sport, and

Whereas, Husky seniors Jimmy Ackermann and Phil Walbridge each concluded their Cabot basketball careers with personal scoring tallies in excess of 1,000 points, and

Whereas, this wonderful event in the annals of Cabot High School can be attributed to every boys’ basketball Husky, including Tyler Trickler, Jimmy Ackermann, Phil Walbridge, Greg Burtt, Ethan Lay-Sleeper, Branden Pecor, Sam Bromley, Bryden Considine, Ian Ackermann, Sam Tormey and Jesse Fitzgerald, and

Whereas, Coaches Billy Waller, Wendall Carlson, and Bob Miller were the guiding force which molded these outstanding young basketball players into authentic champions, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly extends the heartiest of congratulations to the 2003 Cabot High School Huskies Division IV boys’ basketball champions, whose memorable contribution to their school’s history will long be remembered, and be it further

Resolved:  That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Billy Waller at the Cabot School.
