NO. R-81.  JOINT RESOLUTION congratulating Sonnax on the occasion of the company’s silver anniversary.

Offered by:  Representatives Obuchowski of Rockingham, Deen of Westminster and Partridge of Windham.

Offered by:  Senator Gander of Windham County and Senator White of Windham County.

Whereas, in 1978, an energetic entrepreneur, Neil Joseph, established Sonnax to supply the automotive aftermarket with quality transmission parts, and

Whereas, when Neil Joseph became sole owner of Sonnax in 1982, he relocated the company to Vermont, stored its limited inventory in a single 24‑foot U-Haul and worked, with his one employee, from the basement of his home in Westminster West, and

Whereas, after a brief stay in Putney, Sonnax, growing in both inventory and employees, relocated to an 8,500 square‑foot space in the Rockingham Industrial Park and during the ensuing years, now proudly boasting its own line of torque converters, the company leased manufacturing and warehouse space in both Springfield and Bellows Falls, and

Whereas, continued growth led the company in 1997 to construct its own 60,000 square‑foot energy‑efficient headquarters in Bellows Falls where Sonnax with a staff of 165 has become the town’s largest employer, and

Whereas, annually, the company now sells nearly $30 million dollars of automotive parts and on a daily basis ships in excess of 40,000 parts worldwide, and

Whereas, the company’s continued expansion has already outgrown its current headquarters which had been designed with future growth in mind, and

Whereas, Sonnax’s commitment to customer service and product quality have contributed to the company’s status as one of the state’s rising corporate stars, and

Whereas, Neil Joseph is an inspiration and role model for entrepreneurs across the state, now therefore be it
