Whereas, troops of the United States armed forces, including members of Vermont National Guard units and active and reserve military personnel from this state, have been deployed to the Persian Gulf region in general, and Iraq in particular, and are now engaged in combat, and

Whereas, this deployment consists of at least one‑quarter million military personnel encompassing ground troops, aviators, and sea‑based forces, and

Whereas, the dangers members of our armed forces encounter each day are immense and often life threatening, and

Whereas, at this pivotal moment in our nationís history, it is important that our troops on the front lines know their welfare is constantly at the forefront of our thoughts, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly expresses its hopes and wishes for the welfare and speedy and safe return of our military personnel currently engaged in combat in the Persian Gulf, and be it further

Resolved:† That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to General Richard B. Meyers, Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, at the Pentagon, and to Vermont Adjutant General Martha T. Rainville at Camp Johnson in Colchester.
