†††† Whereas, one of the members of the House of Representatives most admired by her colleagues of all political persuasions is former Representative Stephanie Bourdeau of Hyde Park, who represented her Lamoille County constituents from 1997 until 2003 with compassion, conviction, and an admirable dedication to public service, both in committee and during deliberations on the floor of the House, and

Whereas, former Representative Bourdeau has a record of civic involvement that predates her tenure in the House, having served locally as a member of the Hyde Park Selectboard and Board of Civil Authority since 1990 and as a director of the Lamoille County Planning Commission from 1992 to 1999, and

Whereas, her special interest in agricultural matters, reflecting her career as a dairy farmer, led her to assume leadership positions in both county and state farm organizations, including membership on the Lamoille County Milk Promotion Board, as President of the Lamoille County Farm Bureau, and as both an executive committee member and board member of the Vermont Farm Bureau, which in 1995 named her the organizationís Farm Woman of the Year, and

Whereas, as a veteran dairy farmer who has personally experienced the difficulties and shared the aspirations of the farming community, former Representative Bourdeau worked diligently not only to help enact legislation assisting farmers, but of equal importance, to continuously educate and to sensitize the members of the General Assembly to the challenges farmers in this state must confront in the 21st century, and

Whereas, she repeatedly spoke out on the floor of the House of Representatives with great eloquence and passion on behalf of Vermontís farmers, and she was always well prepared to support her public policy positions, and

Whereas, during the 2002 legislative session, former Representative Bourdeau vigorously sought to protect the interests of Lamoille County as the General Assembly completed the constitutionally-required decennial reapportionment, and

Whereas, despite her battle against severe health problems, she had confidently resumed her legislative duties in the House, and

Whereas, her legislative colleagues were profoundly saddened to learn that former Representative Bourdeauís health has once again restricted her ability to fully perform her responsibilities in the State House, and that after careful consideration and with great reluctance, she has decided to resign her seat in order that her constituents could have the benefit of full-time representation, and

Whereas, the reading of her resignation letter on the floor of the House brought many tributes of admiration and comments of sincere friendship from members across the political aisles, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the members of the General Assembly extend their best wishes for a full recovery to their esteemed friend and colleague, former Representative Stephanie Bourdeau of Hyde Park, and be it further

Resolved:† That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to former Representative Stephanie Bourdeau in Hyde Park.
