NO. R-40.  House concurrent resolution honoring Stanley and Donna Borofsky for their dedication to enhancing the economic and civic life of greater Brattleboro.


Offered by:  Representatives Obuchowski of Rockingham, Bartlett of Dover, Darrow of Dummerston, Deen of Westminster, Edwards of Brattleboro, Hube of Londonderry, Marek of Newfane, Martin of Springfield, Milkey of Brattleboro, O’Donnell of Vernon, Partridge of Windham, Pillsbury of Brattleboro and Rusten of Halifax, and Senator Gander of Windham County and Senator White of Windham County.

Whereas, Stanley (Pal) Borofsky is well known in and around Brattleboro as the owner of Sam’s Outdoor Outfitters, a popular clothing establishment, and

Whereas, his role in the community is not limited to his workday duties at Sam’s, and

Whereas, he has devoted innumerable hours and abundant energy to serving as a thoughtful public servant, and as an active member and supporter of various nonprofit organizations, and

Whereas, Stanley Borofsky’s interest in Brattleboro’s municipal affairs was demonstrated during his tenure on the town’s selectboard, and

Whereas, his constructive presence has been welcomed on the various boards of directors of which he has been a member, including the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, the Vermont Retail Association, and the regional board of the former Vermont National Bank, and

Whereas, Stanley’s true commitment to his community was best exemplified when he became a founder of the Building a Better Brattleboro organization, and

Whereas, on February 1, in recognition of his devotion to nurturing Brattleboro’s economic vitality and civic institutions, he was deservedly named the 2003 Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce’s Person of the Year, and

Whereas, community service in the Borofsky family is hardly Stanley’s exclusive domain, as his wife Donna has been a vibrant volunteer at many local institutions, including the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center, the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, Marlboro College, the Brooks Memorial Library, and the Estey Organ Museum, and

Whereas, the Borofskys continue to leave a wonderfully indelible mark on their community, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates Stanley (Pal) Borofsky on his being named the Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2003 Person of the Year, and recognizes the considerable civic contributions of Donna Borofsky to the community institutions of greater Brattleboro, and be it further

Resolved:  That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Stanley and Donna Borofsky in Brattleboro.
