Subject: Motor vehicles; interstate highways; passing; snowstorms
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to prohibit trucks from passing other motor vehicles on interstate highways during snowstorms if the other vehicles are traveling 45 miles per hour or more, and there is sufficient snow on the highway to cause a whiteout.
AN ACT RELATING TO THE OPERATION OF TRUCKS ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS DURING SNOWSTORMS
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 23 V.S.A. § 1004(d) is added to read:
(d) Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (a) of this section, trucks registered for weights in excess of 26,000 pounds shall not, on interstate highways, pass other motor vehicles which are traveling at least 45 miles per hour if there is sufficient snow on the highway to cause a whiteout.
